Dino Jeepers Creepers!

When it comes to creating new experiences or attractions, utilising existing infrastructure can sometimes provide a great solution – it’s not so much reinventing the wheel, just turning it in a different direction!

Last year we helped transform Drayton Manor’s Polperro Express train ride into the much talked about Halloween attraction ‘The Haunted Express’. With some simple re-imagination, the tame train ride that has existed in the park for many years became a thrilling Halloween immersive audio adventure, catapulting it into the theme park enthusiasts’ top Halloween attractions lists and helping Drayton Manor win the coveted Gold Award for best new event for their Halloween offering ‘Night At The Manor’.

This year Crealy Theme Park & Resort in Exeter gave us a similar challenge – take an existing attraction within the park and create something suitably scary for Halloween using immersive audio. After a couple of creative discussions, we decided to avoid Sooty Land (just too terrifying!) and instead, steered by the park management, settled on the Dino Jeeps ride. With our love of wordplay and quirky titles, we came up with Dino Jeepers Creepers (see what we did there) making the idea a total no-brainer!

Next was the story narrative. Unlike with The Haunted Express, we needed to maintain some of the ride’s identity and integrate the existing theming. So we simply created a bonkers Palaeontologist who has come to Crealy to share his notion that their dinosaur exhibits are in fact more than just plastic replicas of the prehistoric past and that during Halloween they are often visited by unusual spiritual dinosaur creatures, haunting the Dino Jeeps ride – simple! To prove his theory, visitors are invited to wear special Dino Detecting Earpieces and venture onto the ride to see and hear for themselves.

Creating a suitable soundtrack for this interesting mashup of ideas has provided more of a challenge. So for this attraction, we have commissioned a bespoke composed musical soundtrack designed to underpin the narrative with all of the spookiness of Halloween but with a unique prehistoric edge, and the results are incredible! But if you want to hear them for yourselves you will need to visit Crealy’s Spook-Fest taking place during October 2023!
