An interview with Polly Shute, Co-Founder of Out and About LGBTQ and Out & Wild Festival (Travel.Radio EP 08)

On the 18th of December, we provided you with our Saturday night radio show Wish You Were Queer for your weekly dose of LGBTQ+ Travel Radio fun! With all the usual queer features, such as The Flying Handbag play-at-home game. Could you decipher the clues and guess who the celebrity was who left their stuff in our lost property?

In the run-up to Christmas, you can hear all about what destination news made it onto our naughty and nice list in Top or Bottom. The UK ranked poorly, making the Bottom spot TWICE! Along with Australia, with a new controversial bill. On Top was New Zealand, as they made a historic movement for trans rights. Air Malta and Iceland are also in our good books, with their LGBTQ+ friendly and progressive inclusivity.

Jamie reveals another one of his Proud Package destinations. After two years of not being able to celebrate, the theme for the delayed 30th anniversary of the Brighton and Hove Pride community parade was announced.

In the Hotseat we had Polly Shute. Polly is co-founder of Out and About LGBTQ – a new and exciting site for connecting the LGBTQIA community. Polly brings to us a really interesting perspective on how the travel sector caters for LGBT women versus men. Does the travel industry do enough to support and include LGBT women? Jamie and Polly discuss gay-themed holidays and how they seem to be more focused on men, as the conversation turns to Gran Canaria Pride and non-inclusive marketing tactics.

Polly is also the co-founder of Out & Wild Festival, an innovative wellness festival, the first to be based on what women and non-binary people actually say they want. It is a female-focused safe, inclusive and supportive space to go, connecting people through experiences and allowing them to try new things.

The festival runs from the 10th – 13th of June – in the middle of Pride month.
