As a team, we were keen to set up a solid set of values which would support us working together, each other, individually, remotely, in person, with our clients by email, phone or on-site, and with our day-to-day tasks and responsibilities.

With that in mind, we set up a couple of face-to-face workshops to look at our business together, our roles, background stories, thoughts and opinions. Part of this process was to answer questions via Post-it notes and collate the notes all together to see what the bigger picture looked like. This collaboration process shone a light on five definitive values that we all embraced:

One of the most important reasons for our values was to create a sense of togetherness whilst working remotely. When you’re in an office or working space together, it’s easier to ask for support and equally to support each other. These values remind us to stay connected with regular check-ins

As a team, we want to feel connected and these values cement that connection. As well as our scheduled meetings, we know that if one of us needs to stop for a quick break or check in with each other, we can do that.

During our kick-off meetings, we use these values to talk about and create a new concept. We use these values individually and as a team each day.

We also build in time to remind ourselves and each other at our weekly get-togethers of these values that bond us together in our decision-making and dedication to our goals.

The values are incorporated into our fortnightly one-to-one check-ins and are built into our appraisal process, giving us a chance to talk more about them, how we feel we are delivering them, and if we need extra support with anything.
